Preh innovative premium center console featured on Prosche 918 Spyder

Bad Neustadt a. d. Saale – Preh will be supplying the innovative premium center console for the Porsche 918 Spyder super sports car. The special feature of the operating system: With the new Porsche console, display technology and operating functionalities of modern smartphones are making their way into the driver cockpit. In addition, the 918 Spyder also features a new fanless temperature sensor for climate control, as well as multifunction switches in the steering wheel, both also from Bad Neustadt.

The central role for the Human Machine Interface (HMI) in the new Porsche 918 Spyder is played by a multi-touch glass surface. For the first time, Preh has completed the surface of a central console in a black-panel design with arched and hardened real glass. The console has three rotary knobs and, instead of conventional buttons, touch-sensitive icons that give audible feedback when selecting a function. In the upper area of the console, a TFT display, integrated by optical bonding, is located under the surface of real glass. It has touchscreen functionality, and as a special feature, recognizes characters written with the finger. The new control system of the high-performance, mid-engine sports car with hybrid drive was developed in close cooperation with Porsche and is manufactured at Preh headquarters in Bad Neustadt.

Multimedia functions, as well as the air conditioner, can be managed by means of the “switch center”. A touch-sensitive surface at the top of the console also serves to shift screen contents with a swipe of the index finger on the center display in the dashboard, or to perform zoom-in and/or zoom-out movements for the navigation screen.

“We are proud to be on-board this unique super sports car,” said Preh Managing Director and Head of Development Jochen Ehrenberg. “After we had implemented innovative center consoles together with Porsche for several concept cars, the current version for the Porsche 918 Spyder, which is novel in many respects, can be transferred into series production.“
